This document has been created to aid Parents, Carers & Guardians for important information that they need to look for when booking a Summer Camp.

Are they Ofsted Registered?

Have you checked if your company are Ofsted registered? If your Camp looks after a Child for more than 4 hours in any one day, they must register with Ofsted.

If they aren't registered, are they meeting the requirements outlined by Ofsted? Follow this link to view the exemptions; https://www.gov.uk/guidance/childminders-and-childcare-providers-register-with-ofsted/registration-exemptions

Active Summer Camps are Ofsted registered to meet the requirements, but also to ensure we follow best practice whilst your child/children are in attendance at our Camps.

Are the Staff DBS Checked?

Do staff need to be DBS Checked to look after my child? YES!

Employers can check the criminal record of someone applying for a role. This is known as getting a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

You can request a more detailed check for certain roles, for example in healthcare or childcare.

An enhanced check, which shows the same as a standard check plus any information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role. An enhanced check with barred lists, which shows the same as an enhanced check plus whether the applicant is on the list of people barred from doing the role.

It is a simple answer. All staff who are working with children should have an up to date DBS Check to ensure they are allowed to work with children. At Active Summer Camps, we ensure, as part of our Safer Recruitment policy, that all of our staff have undergone an enhanced DBS Check prior to starting their role with us.

Are the Staff First Aid Trained?

This isn't essential for the Staff to be First Aid Trained, however, if the staff are First Aid Trained, this should give you a piece of mind that your child will remain safe, even if they happen to have an accident whilst in attendance.

kAt Active Summer Camps, we have a strict policy which ensures all of our staff have a First Aid Qualification. All staff are trained in Emergency Paediatric First Aid, and each Manager will hold a First Aid at Work Qualification, which is in place for if a staff member was to injury themselves whilst at work

Does the company have a up to date insurance policy?

Check with you provider to make sure they have the correct insurance for the activities which they are carrying out. A copy of their insurance should be available to see at when attending their venue.

Ask for the policy for your camp to make sure they have public liability insurance as a minimum. Are they insured for the activities that they are carrying out? For example, if they have scooters or bikes at camp, are they insured to offer this as a structured activity?

What activities will you Child be doing whilst at Camp?

If you are sending your child to a Camp, do you know what activities they will be doing whilst they are there? Take a look at the Camps programme and see what they are offering. Do they offer a variety of activities, both sporting & non-sporting? Do they have structured activities or do they let the children self lead their activities.
